Wine

What is the difference between a $5.00 and a $25.00 bottle of wine? Besides taste. Why does one cost so much more?
Answer From Expert Roger Bohmrich MW

This is a good question and often asked by consumers. Some wine drinkers believe that quality is correlated with price; in other words, the higher the price, the greater the pleasure. This simply is not true, and often comparatively simple, inexpensive wines are preferred by wine drinkers in "blind" tastings, when they don't know the price! This has been substantiated by numerous taste tests, including the "Wine Trials."
Looking at the question in another way, price depends on many objective factors such as country and region of origin, winemaking techniques, tax rates, trade mark-ups, and many others. However, there is a premium for reputation and rarity, in wine as in other consumer goods.
