I would appreciate knowing if you could recommend a modest wine cooler that accomodates the larger Pinot Noir bottles. I've searched the internet but have reached a stone wall. Something in the neighborhood of 12-20 bottles would satisfy most novice wine drinkers.

I can refer you to merchants which offer many types of wine cabinets such as Wine Enthusiast (wineenthusiast.com) and International Wine Accessories (iwawine.com). Both have many brands and types to choose from starting with 6-bottle coolers at less than $150. In addition, several kitchen appliance companies have added wine refrigerators to their lines. I am not sure exactly what you mean by the "larger Pinot Noir bottles," but I realize that there are many oversized bottles of wine on the market today. Many coolers have adjustable or removable shelves, so you can alter the interior to accommodate most large bottles.
