The US is the fourth largest wine producer after France, Italy and Spain. In terms of total consumption, the US became the largest consumer in 2010, taking over the lead from France. On a per capita basis, the US is still well down the list. There are 7,626 bonded wineries in the US as of 2010, a substantial increase over the number just ten years earlier (2,904).
