White Merlot

Is White Merlot considered a red wine.
Answer From Expert Roger Bohmrich MW

Confusingly, White Merlot is neither a white nor red wine. True, Merlot is a dark-skinned grape, and around the world it usually yields a red wine whose color is imparted by the skins. A so-called "white" Merlot is vinified with only the briefest contact between the juice and skin so as to obtain a faint blush of red in the wine's color. For that reason, White Merlot (or White Zinfandel) has come to be known as a blush wine; that is, a rosé by another name.
