What Happened To Joseph Picone?

A friend brought a bottle of '82 Joseph Picone Petite Sirah to dinner. No visible ullage, cork broke on removal, wine dark and aromatic, tasted at least 15 years younger. All in all very good. Still tannic. Could not find much on this wine. Apparently bought out by Miramonte. Dead end. Do you have any info on this wine or Joseph Picone? I couldn't fine anything. Thanks
Answer From Expert Roger Bohmrich MW

I am certainly intrigued but also frustrated because I can't find anything on Joseph Picone wines. I was in the wine business in 1982, but, honestly, I'm drawing a blank on this producer. Miramonte Winery is in Temecula, California and was founded in 2000. Was Picone also in that area of Southern California and did Miramonte buy that winery (and their vineyards, perhaps) in the 2000s? If it's that recent, there should be an internet trail of some kind...but no luck. Miramonte does not mention Picone on their website. Perhaps someone will read this post and give us the answer.
