Tropical Wine

Would people like tropical wine such as mango and passion fruit wine? What type of age group/ethinic will like fruit wine?
Answer From Expert Roger Bohmrich MW

There are various wines made from what we might think are "unlikely" fruits including mango and passion fruit, but also more esoteric ones such as Jaboticaba from Australia or Mangosteen - and countless others. You can find several wineries in Florida offering a range of wines based on fruits other than grapes. I suppose the likely consumer of these wines is one who prefers a degree of sweetness and is open to a wide range of flavors, not just the conventional profile of grape-based wines. That same drinker might also enjoy blush wines such as so-called White Zinfandel. This is in fact a large segment of the U.S. wine-drinking public. On the other hand, wines made from tropical fruits are not in wide distribution. Around the U.S. there are wineries making wine from non-tropical fruits including blueberry and raspberry. They wouldn't continue to do so - or stay in business - if they didn't find a market for these products!
