Swiss Wines

There are excellent wines from the Swiss jura area...like hopital portales. Where can I buy such wines in Atlanta? So far no luck!
Answer From Expert Roger Bohmrich MW

I tried to find listings of Swiss wines at various Atlanta retailers without success. There are many excellent Swiss wines which certainly merit attention from consumers, but Switzerland consumes nearly all of its own wines, so exports are not a priority as they are in large wine-producing countries. Some of the grapes being grown, including Chardonnay, Pinot Gris and Pinot Noir, are very familiar to an international audience. On the other hand, there are as well those which are largely unknown. Fendant (AKA Chasselas)- which also goes by other names - is the dominant variety. There are also native grapes such as Amigne, Petite Arvine, and Cornalin. To experience these wines, by far the best strategy is to spend time in Switzerland since it seems unlikely they will be readily available in the U.S. in the foreseeable future.
