can wine be kept unrefrigerated after opening and if so how long?
Answer From Expert Roger Bohmrich MW

This is without a doubt the most frequently asked question on the LWE forum! If you have a few minutes, I suggest you look over past questions and my answers - and there have been many - to get an overview of this question in many variations. In short, there are many devices, such as inexpensive inert gas sprays and stoppers, which will protect open wine bottles. Refrigeration will prolong the life of opened wine, but is of course more practical with white wines which are enjoyed chilled. The best overall strategy is to finish a bottle of table wine within two days of opening to assure freshness. That said, delicate whites should be kept cold and will deteriorate rather quickly while powerful young reds will keep for several days - some very concentrated red wines may even be better the second day!
