Storage Of Open Wine Bottle

I have a glass of wine every evening. But I am the only person in the house who drinks wine. So what type of cork should I use and should I refrigerate the bottle or not? A bottle will usually last me 1-2 weeks.
Answer From Expert Roger Bohmrich MW

This is a very popular question on LWE, and over the years I have provided a great deal of advice relating to keeping an open bottle at its best. Above all, it depends on the type of wine. For example, light aromatic whites are inherently more fragile and should be refrigerated; they may lose their fruit rather fast. Full bodied, powerful reds can be quite durable even at room temperature over several days. Some people like to refrigerate reds, but then each time you want a glass you need to pour it well in advance. In both cases, you can use simple, inexpensive devices to protect the wine such as the "evacuation" system (rubber plug and hand pump) or inert gas sprayed from a can into the open bottle, which is then sealed with a plug. However, you cannot really expect table wines to hold up over two weeks once opened.
