Seeking A Good Dark Non-sweet Grapejuice Type Wine

Can you recommend a good dark wine with a profound grape juice taste, without a sweet taste. (A price range of $10.00 to $25.00 a bottle)
Answer From Expert Roger Bohmrich MW

Let's see if I understand your question...you're looking for a very full-bodied dry red wine with concentrated flavors? If so, then in your desired price range I would look to Australia first, particularly at Shiraz from various districts of South Australia. There are many such wines on the market, so you should experiment with different brands. You may also find what you're looking for in Syrah and some Cabernets from California. Argentine Malbec from numerous wineries is widely available and many deliver the sort of rich, generous profile you are describing. Another option would be France's Rhone Valley, especially Southern Rhone appellations based on Grenache(Vacqueyras, Rasteau, Seguret, etc.). Last, you could try some Spanish reds based on Tempranillo; fuller, more generous examples come from Ribera del Duero and Toro in the under $25 retail bracket.
