Purchasing Wine In Utah

I am curious why we can't buy Colorado wine in Utah?
Answer From Expert Roger Bohmrich MW

Utah is a so-called control state which closely regulates and administers the sale of alcoholic beverages. This may to some extent limit the number of wines which are available, but it is only part of the explanation. I checked the official website of the Utah Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control, which publishes a monthly retail price list of products. I couldn't find any Colorado wines, but then again I did not see wines from many other parts of the USA or, for that matter, many regions around the world. It all comes down to the demand for a particular type or brand of wine. There is wine made in every state, but with the exception of just a handful (principally California, Washington and Oregon), nearly all of these wines are consumed locally. In other words, Colorado is only one of dozens of states whose wines are not available in Utah. Should Colorado wines develop a strong reputation in the years ahead, consumers elsewhere are likely to show interest. When that happens - and if vintners also market their wines successfully - the state's wines will become more widely available in other locations.
