Opened Bottle Of Port

I opened a nice Blackberry Port from Canada for Xmas and we only drank half bottle. Can I recork and save for a couple weeks?
Answer From Expert Roger Bohmrich MW

If this is a fortified wine with around 20% alcohol by volume, it should have enough innate strength to be kept for up to two weeks after opening. However, styles of fortified wines vary quite a bit. Some have only 15% ABV and really offer their very best "fruity" qualities when first opened, and deteriorate thereafter. I would have to find out more about and taste the specific one you have to give you better guidance. In any case, keeping the bottle in a cool, dark place will help, as will using some type of preservation system recommended for wines. By the way, true "Port" only comes from Portugal and is made from grapes, not other fruits. All other versions may be inspired by the original to differing degrees - perhaps only in that alcohol is added to stop the fermentation process, keeping a measure of the natural sugars. This may sound like a trivial point, but all around the world products are sold with names belonging to another country and region!
