Moscato Wine

Is all moscato wine made low in alcohol and sugar
Answer From Expert Roger Bohmrich MW

As a wine style, Moscato is sweet and contains low to moderate alcohol. The classic version which has inspired so many imitations is Moscato d'Asti from Piedmont, Italy. This wonderful white wine can be absolutely delicious and offers a fantastic perfume, a very light sparkle, and sweetness balanced by refreshing acidity. Typically, Moscato d'Asti has 5.5% alcohol by volume. There are many versions of Moscato now available in the U.S. in addition to the original. Some are not white wines; they are tinted lightly pink or another coloration. All are sweet to varying degrees, but of course our individual sensitivities to sugar vary and are offset, or accentuated, by the wine's acidity level. From the brands I have seen, alcohol content tends to be lower than the common range of most other table wines; namely, 9% or less by volume.
