I live in Citrus County, Florida, and can not find any merchant who sells ice wines. I would like to know more about this particular wine, if possible -- what flavors, prices, etc. Thank you. Wavy Wells

Ice wines - or Eiswein in Germany - can be absolutely superb: intensely concentrated in their aromas, high sweetness and bracing backbone of acidity. It is the precise equilibrium of these elements which makes for a great ice wine. Often broadly considered dessert wines, ice wines can be very delicate and will be overwhelmed if served with heavy, rich desserts; on the other hand, pairing them with a fruit tart (pear or apple) can be fantastic! One reason it is not easy to find ice wines is simply that they are produced in very small quantities. Only those areas which are capable of freezing grapes while they are still on the vine account for true ice wine (freezing can be done in chillers as well). Germany is especially famous for Riesling Eiswein. Canada is a significant source - making "Icewine" from Vidal and other grapes - led by wineries such as Inniskillin and Pillitteri. You will have a better chance of finding one of these brands, if not locally, then via the Internet. Given the difficulty and expense of making such wines, they are not inexpensive.
