How many grapes are there that have a red skin and also red juice?
Answer From Expert Roger Bohmrich MW
The grapes you are referring to, which have both a red or dark skin and a red pulp, are referred to as teinturier varieties. This term comes from the French and suggests that the inside of a dark-skinned grape, normally lacking the anthocyanins which have a reddish color, has been "dyed" or "tinted." Wines made with these grapes certainly possess rich coloring matter. I am not certain of the exact number of teinturier varieties, but there may be a half dozen in current use. The best known is Alicante Bouschet, and others include Alicante Ganzin, Saperavi and Rubired.
