Cook's Spumante Ca Sparkling Wine 8.5% Alc.

I have two bottles of above mentioned wine left from a wedding four years ago. It's been in my fridge for the past 3 yrs. Is is still drinkable or will a person get sick from it? I have several other types of wine collected from gifts given several years ago too and I'm afraid to give it away or drink it. What can I do??? Thank you.
Answer From Expert Roger Bohmrich MW

When in doubt, open the bottles! There is no point in keeping the Cook's a day longer, but it's not likely to make anyone sick. This is not the type of wine which is intended to be cellared. If the wine is completely flat and dark in color, you probably won't find it appealing - but you'll only know the condition when you open the bottle. Storing wine in a refrigerator for a long time is not the best approach, since in fact there are wide swings of temperature and humidity, not to mention bright light, every time the door is opened.
