What is the appropriate temperature for storing vintage champagne?
Answer From Expert Roger Bohmrich MW
The usual practice is to store Champagne within the same basic range as other wines: somewhere in the 50's F. I would say, however, that Champagne demands particularly careful handling and storage. A fine vintage you intend to keep for a number of years should, I would argue, be kept cooler than still wines. In my experience, Champage is one of the most fragile of all fine wines. In a wine cooler with a set temperature, place the Champagne at the bottom of the cabinet. In a cellar or room - with temperature control or just naturally cool - keep it on the floor and away from light and vibration. How long you keep the Champagne will depend on how ideal the conditions are, and on the particular brand or type. If there are any doubts, don't cellar the bottle for too long.
