Beer Taste And Smel

hubby made his first attempt at making elderberry wine. for some reason to me it has a slight beer taste and smell to it. what would cause that?
Answer From Expert Roger Bohmrich MW

We receive a surprising number of questions from home winemakers. I have spent my career in the commercial wine trade and have never made wine at home. From your description, could it be a spoilage problem of some kind? You need to consult a credible reference book such as Home Winemaking for Dummies by Tim Patterson, or another of the many technical manuals. Your situation may call for an elderberry specialist, however, and I suggest you search online.
