What would be a good sweet wine at my girlfriend might like red or white. She typically likes those sweet mixed drinks buy Seagram's. So something in that flavor range just not sickening sweet. Thanks Robert

This is a good time for those who enjoy wines with a degree of sweetness. For quite a while, there have been many whites with residual sugar to varying degrees, but now the choice of sweet reds - that is, the opposite of "dry" - has expanded signficantly. And most of the new offerings are very affordable. For a sweet white (or sometimes lightly colored wine), try a Moscato. The classic Italian version has a wonderful balance of sweetness and refreshing acidity. There are as well many variations from California. Red wines with residual sweetness - often blends of differing grape varieties - have been launched by some of the largest wineries. Inexpensive labels your girlfriend might enjoy include Barefoot, Woodbridge, Beringer and Sutter Home, to name just a few of the possibilities. Or, she could try the sweet style of Italian Lambrusco. You'll find a selection of these wines at any large wine retailer.
