India Is Fast Catching The Wine Culture

A very pleasant experience these days is to witness wine serving at parties and various gatherings at least in India's main cities.It was not the scene even just a decade ago.Strangely,the bars,the clubs and even within households,wine was a far cry.At rare occasions,wine used to be seen well taken and appreciated.Sweet Port wine used to do at social circles mainly with the ladies as its main patrons.There were never a serious talk with wine as the subject.Well, today starting with major metros like New Delhi,Kolkata, Hyderabad,Bangalore,Chennai,Coimbatore,Cochin,Trivandrum,Goa,Pune and Mumbai the country's vast consumer world is taking deep interest in varieties of wine.The country has simultaneously taken a strong foot forward to cultivate quality produce thru well nurtured vineyards,overseas technology and latest equipment support.No wonder,varieties of good wine,red,white,rose,sparkling are all in the market now from various producers each offering their expertise at their best.The total culture has taken a deep root already with quite a number of Wine Clubs(the latest is the Ladies' Wine Club of Mumbai)around the country,good number of Wine Tasting festivals,learning sessions and few publications already making their presence felt.The most outstanding and encouraging area is rise of wine consumption with understanding and maturity.In fact quite a large number of patrons are shifting fast to wine consumption from hard liquors.A regular observation at clubs and pubs.Company parties,launches,fashion shows and bridal extravaganza are today dull without wine being served.Along with foreign labels,Indian varieties are creating their sustainable position and writings are on the walls,Indian wines are coming of age.
