Local Event
Port is a fortified wine, made from indigenous varietals in the Douro Valley of Portugal. The name of the wine is derived from the city in which it is made and from which it is shipped, Oporto. The wine is highly alcoholic (usually 20% ABV or more) and is seductively sweet. Port is made in a variety of styles, some of which are released early after a short stint in oak barrels, some of which are released after considerable time in oak barrels, and some of which are aged for a very long time in the bottle. This latter style is called Vintage Port and is the pinnacle of Port production. Vintage Port is known to age for 50+ years, or longer and is the favorite of every self-respecting Englishman. At this event we will delve into the mysteries of Vintage Port. We will take a trip far into the past to test the theory that Vintage Port ages well, and we will visit more contemporary bottlings to glean an understanding of the elements that make Vintage Port so age worthy. Along with the wines, we will be serving a selection of appropriately paired artisanal cheeses and breads. You will not want to miss this event, so sign up today!
