Some say Italian wine is intimidating, but it need not be. Through the ages, Italian wine has been lauded for its characteristics as a simple, natural beverage. Join us on a wine journey to Italy’s famed region of Tuscany where we will swirl, sniff and taste our way through some Tuscan superstars, discuss how to understand them and regale you with intriguing information as to their names, stories and history. We shall also discuss wine basics; (sight, smell, taste, and touch); and the pairing of food and wine. We plan to dispel some wine myths such as *white with fish and red with meats.” We invite you to travel with us, have some fun, and taste fascinating Tuscan superstars both white and red from Castello Banfi on our journey into the realm of fine wine. Award winning Castello Banfi was founded in 1978 thanks to the will of two Italian-American brothers, John and Harry Mariani. From the beginning, the goal of these brothers was to create a state-of-the-art winery combined with the most advanced science in the vineyards for the production of premium wines. Our speaker is Sharron McCarthy, AWS Award of Merit Honoree, Past President of the Society of Wine Educators and former VP of Banfi Vintners. In 2015, the Italian government inducted Sharron into the Wines of Italy Hall of Fame which took place at the Waldorf Astoria in NYC.
