“The finest glasses for both technical and hedonistic purposes are those made by Riedel. The effect of these glasses on fine wine is profound. I cannot emphasize enough what a difference they make.”—Robert Parker, Wine Advocate

Claus Riedel was the first person in the long history of the glass to design its shape according to the character of a wine. He is thus the inventor of the functional wine glass. RIEDEL is known for producing the largest range of high-quality glasses, specifically fine-tuned to fit predominant grape varietals, making it possible to fully appreciate all the taste and aroma nuances of better wines—the ones we prefer to drink, right?

Following tradition, Georg and Maximilian Riedel today challenge themselves to improve on what had gone before with the result being a new line— Performance — a technologically advanced and user-friendly collection of grape varietal specific glasses.  These are the glasses to be featured at our September 20th event! And here’s more about them.

Performance is the first Riedel series ever to feature bowls with a light optic effect. Detailed research by the Riedel family, aimed at improving the organoleptic wine experience, revealed that increasing the inner surface area of the glass had a positive impact on the perception of the bouquet and flavor of the wine. This was achieved through a unique optical effect, which not only adds a pleasing visual aspect to the bowl, but also increases the inner surface area, allowing the wine to open up and to fully show every aroma and subtle nuance. The new bowl shapes, when combined with the optic effect, deliver ultimate wine enjoyment, making these the new essential ‘must-have’ wine glass collection.

And these, unlike previous RIEDEL series we know and love and frequently break; are dishwasher safe.  And that’s a major carrot for those who thought we already had enough RIEDEL glasses. Ha!

If the science doesn’t convince you that a glass really makes that much differencejoin us to find out. And if you already know, I know you’ll be there!

Save the date—Friday, September 20th at 7 p.m. at the Hilton Harrisburg. We will be joined by RIEDEL Company’s Susan Durbrow who will guide us through glass comparisons between Hilton glassware (or bring your own favorite wine glass to compare). Great learning!

There will be wines—but no food—to ensure undistracted, serious glassware testing!  Thus—please eat dinner prior to the event. We will be tasting white and red wines. This event has always been popular AND extremely informative!

Reservations include a set of four different varietal RIEDEL glasses that are yours to keep after the event. And should you want more—which is usually the case following these tastings—you may order anything from the RIEDEL catalog through PWS as an Authorized Distributor!

We can only rarely offer this event due to the work and expense involved There is a higher ticket price given what you take home—your very own, authentic RIEDEL glassware ($178 value)— so set aside cash reserves now. This event and the glassware is well worth the investment. Reservation deadline is September 10th and the event will be widely advertised so don’t wait.
