Words from Chef Vekonda

Growing up, Laap Gai was more than just a meal for me; it was a cherished connection to my family, especially my grandma and mom. They would make this dish all the time, especially during the back-to-school season, because it was an easy meal to assemble, nourishing, healthy, and beloved by our entire family. I remember eating it with sticky rice, the staple of any Lao meal, and my mom would even pack it for me to take as a school lunch. Even though it wasn’t the typical American school meal, I loved it all the same, as it brought a little piece of home with me wherever I went. Laap Gai is a dish that has nourished both body and soul, becoming not just a family favorite but a beloved dish across the nation of Laos.Join us to craft traditional Lao dishes that evoke the warmth of family gatherings. Whether you’re making Laap Gai, a savory herb-packed chicken salad, or Thomp Gai, a light and comforting lemongrass chicken soup, you’ll be creating meals rich in flavor and history.Get ready for an evening of funky, delicious food that will make your taste buds dance. Grab a drink at Remnant Brewing or Rebel Rebel Wine Bar, and spice up your food life. You’ll leave with a recipe in hand, eager to recreate the authentic Lao experience at home.Dishes contain shellfish, fish, and glutinous rice. Food substitutions are available."
