Temporary Space Preview Dinner
Join us for a preview dinner fundraiser on Nov 1, 6-9p. This exclusive event will take place on the eve of the "Temporary Space" opening, set amidst the gallery's artworks. Guests will enjoy a first look at the upcoming show, engage with the curators and featured artists, and explore the show's themes. The evening promises lively art discussions with fellow enthusiasts, all while savoring a delightful family-style meal. The format includes a relaxed preview, brief insights from the director and curator, talks by select artists, and culminating in a communal meal and conversation centered around the show. The dinner is a $125 per person donation, contributing to the show's expenses and enriching our artistic community.
“Temporary Space” begins with this intention, a co-production of art works and the space of the gallery. Similarly, the assembly of artists and the non-traditional hanging of their work will be another sort of co-production, leveraging art’s power to rhyme, resonate or shift in relation to its context. A conversation with participant Sally Goldstein helped establish the connective tissue of this show, including these concepts:
Question the picture plane
Using traditional media in untraditional ways
Unsettling on purpose, possibly unstable
Art in the round, art to be encountered
“Temporary Space” offers an array of perspectives and representation of space, covering the spectrum of abstraction to representation. Versatility of material, like space, will be showcased with works of textile, wood, ceramic, metal, cardboard, canvas, and plastic, among others. Geographic space will be represented by artists from the Bay Area, Los Angeles, New Mexico, and Oklahoma. “Temporary Space” invites viewers to experience the shrinking and expanding, filling and delineating of space in the gallery and beyond.
Ultimately, the exhibition underscores our shared sense of empathy and connection, reminding us of a fundamental truth we frequently overlook—we all live in bodies.
Why are we having a fundraiser dinner? Well, at 120710 we are trying something radical and new. We give 100% of sales of artwork to artists, and we don't charge artists any fees to exhibit in our space. However, the reality is that exhibitions cost some money to run. Through a beautiful shared meal together, we can raise the funds to keep sustaining our unique gallery model and continue to support an inclusive, vibrant, and accessible arts community in the Bay Area. Buying a ticket to the dinner directly supports artists and art in the Bay Area - we have exhibited hundreds of artists since opening and with your support, plan to continue to grow our exhibitions programming.
