Join us in Needham on Tuesday, April 15th from 4:30-6:30 PM. Meet Patrick Cappiello, owner and winemaker at Monte Rio Cellars in Sonoma County, and taste through his exciting lineup of wines!
Patrick’s winemaking career began in 2017 after a 20+ year career as a sommelier in New York City. Over the years he developed a deep appreciation for organic, natural wines because they were more pure expressions of the marriage between grape and terroir. After working a harvest with close friend Pax Mahle, who shared his winemaking philosophy, he decided to make the move from the restaurant world to wine production.
In 2001 he started at TriBeCa Grill as the restaurant’s first Sommelier. After that he served as Sommelier at Veritas, followed by a Wine Director position at GILT. In 2013 he opened the first of three restaurants, where he held the position of Wine Director/Owner. Those highly acclaimed restaurants were Pearl & Ash, Rebelle, and Walnut Street Cafe.
Patrick was named "Sommelier of the Year 2014" by Food & Wine Magazine, "Wine Person of the Year 2014" by Imbibe Magazine, and "Sommelier of the Year 2015" by Eater National. He was also the Food & Wine host for the web series ‘Tasting Notes’ for seven seasons and founding member of Winemakers & Sommeliers for California Wildfire Relief. The first vintage of Monte Rio Cellars was in 2018.
