This event is a combo: book release party, podcast episode listening party, and tasting experience.

Sample special snacks from the hearth and sip on the New World's oldest spirit.

Some background info: The paperback edition of Sarah Lohman's book "Endangered Eating: America’s Vanishing Foods" comes out in Nov 2024 with a newly added upfront section: "A conversation between the author Sarah Lohman and Tonya Hopkins, aka “The Food Griot,” a food and drink historian and advisor for the Old Stone House of Brooklyn’s Food & Public History Program."

In a recent "Gravy" Podcast episode called “America’s Lost Peanut and the Price of Bringing it Back,” "Gravy" producer Otis Gray takes listeners on a journey through the history and revival of the Carolina African Runner Peanut. The episode is inspired by Sarah Lohman's book, and a chapter in the book featuring Tonya. Otis interviews Tonya and others in the podcast.

Hear short readings from "Endangered Eating," discussion with Sarah, Tonya and Otis, a Q&A, and book signings by Sarah.

Listen to segments from "Gravy" facilitated by Otis, plus a short discussion and audience Q&A.

Join Sarah Lohman, Tonya Hopkins and Crystal Lawrence around the outdoor, wood-burning Hearth.

The spirited storytelling and sipping part of the evening will be facilitated by Tonya Hopkins featuring a mezcal tasting with a little history and its connection to "Endangered Eating."

Snacks for attendees will include peanuts, popcorn and samples of a dish featured in the book.
