POLB Pier Wind: Designing and planning the nation’s largest floating offshore wind terminal

The Port of Long Beach is actively engaged in the planning, design, and permitting of Pier Wind, an innovative 400-acre offshore wind port terminal. Set to be the largest purpose-built floating offshore wind port terminal in the country, Pier Wind will feature the management of 50 million cubic yards of dredged material to create 430 acres in the Outer Harbor. The project also features a 7,500-foot-long wharf capable of supporting live loads of 6,000 pounds per square foot (psf), docks for tugs and turbine pre-commissioning, and dedicated anchorage areas for storing turbines awaiting offshore installation. This presentation will provide an overview of the project and discuss the planning and early design decisions that are shaping it.
