Embark on a delectable journey through the world of cheese in this engaging and hands-on class that explores the science behind one of humanity's most beloved foods. "The Science of Cheese: From Curds to Culture" is designed for cheese enthusiasts, culinary students, and anyone curious about the intricate processes that turn milk into a myriad of cheese varieties.

Course Highlights:

  • Cheese-Making Fundamentals: Learn the basic principles of cheese production, including the role of milk composition, the importance of bacterial cultures, and the effects of rennet. Discover how these elements interact to create different textures and flavors.
  • Microbiology of Cheese: Dive into the fascinating world of cheese microbiology. Understand how various strains of bacteria, yeasts, and molds contribute to the aging process and the development of distinct cheese characteristics.
  • Cheese Types and Techniques: Explore a range of cheese styles, from fresh cheeses like mozzarella to aged varieties such as cheddar and blue cheese. Gain insights into the specific techniques and conditions required for each type.
  • Sensory Analysis: Develop your palate through guided tasting sessions. Learn how to identify and describe different flavor profiles, textures, and aromas, and understand how these sensory attributes are influenced by the cheese-making process.

To fully participate in the class:
1. Reserve your ticket through Eventbrite! Purchase one ticket for each member of your party. The ticket price includes admission for one as well as a cheese plate, wine, and accompaniments for one.
2. Show up on the day of class! Class will begin at 5:30pm. This is a standing event in our retail learning setting. The duration of the class is about an hour and a half. After class, there will be time to tour our cheese caves as well as shop our expansive product selection (at a 10% discount!).
3. This event is for 21+. Our staff will check IDs at the door.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Please reach out to classes@formaggiocambridge.com before the day of your class if you or a member of your party has any food allergies or dietary restrictions or requires seating.
CANCELLATION POLICY: If you are unable to attend a class, please let us know at least 72 hours before the class is scheduled to take place and we will give you a full refund or a credit for a future class. If you don't let us know in advance of the class, you are not entitled to any refund or credit.
