Chateau D’Issan Wine Tasting
featuring
Emmanuel Cruse, Proprietor
Twin Liquors – Fitzhugh September 9, 2024 5-6pm
Château d’Issan has, like most in Bordeaux, a long history, dating back to the 12th century and was classified as a third growth in the 1855 classification. But two world wars caused the chateau to decline; as of 1945 only two hectares were producing, when the Cruse family of Dutch merchants bought it. It took Emmanuel Cruse, born in 1968, along with his father Lionel Cruse, to improve the estate from top to bottom. In 1998 Emmanuel took over as Managing Director of d'Issan and now, with 53 hectares in cultivation, has worked to bring the estate into a finer harmony with nature.
Join us at Sigel’s-Fitzhugh on September 9th from 5-6pm as we welcome Emmanuel Cruse, Proprietor of Ch d’Issan in Margaux. One of the leading figures in the Margaux appellation, Emmanuel will lead us through a tasting of recent releases from each of the different wines produced by the estate. After this free tasting, Emmanuel will be hosting a wine dinner at Salum Restaurant right across the street. See details below.
Ch d’Issan Wines to be Tasted
Haut Medoc d’Issan 19
Has a bright and vivid bouquet of dark cherry, blueberry and graphite. The fruit component drives the palate with a medium-bodied texture and mineral accents. Made from Merlot and Cabernet grown on plots 3 miles west of the estate in Arsac in the Haut-Médoc appellation. Le Haut-Médoc d’Issan has a limited annual production of about 1500 cases.
Moulin d’Issan 19
90% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Sauvignon aged in French oak (25% new). Shows an expressive and crunchy red fruit character with a deep color. The finish is very well balanced ended with fine tannins
Blason d’Issan 19 (93js)
“Blackcurrant, sandalwood and rose-petal aromas follow through to a medium body with very fine tannins and a fresh, pretty finish. Second wine. Better after 2024.”
Château d’Issan 16 (96js)
“The brightness and precision already comes through on the nose with floral, blackcurrant character. Full-bodied and very tight and creamy with polished tannins that last for minutes. Warm and intense. Needs four to five years to show all it has, yet already a beauty.”
Chateau d’Issan 2020 (97js)
“Gorgeous aromas of dried flowers, currants, bark, and forest floor. Lead pencil, too. Tobacco. Full-bodied yet racy and polished with fine and silky tannins that run the length of the wine. Crunchy and fresh at the end. Give this five or six years to come together. Supple yet structured. It builds at the finish. Try after 2028.”
