Description

Double the fun on this Sunday in September. We're not only celebrating Central Market's 30th anniversary but featuring a brunch created by Victoria Elizondo, Chef and Owner of Cochinita & co. in honor of Houston's diverse culinary community and Mexican Independence Day. You'll sit back, relax, and enjoy each bite as you pick up tips. Chef will show you how to make an enriched Mexican sweet bread; tortilla chips smothered in green chile sauce with cheese & spicy sausage; a side of refried beans; tantalizing tender, slow-cooked pork roast infused with the flavors of bitter orange, achiote, and spices; and the most amazing version of French Toast you've ever tasted!

A copy of the Chef's cookbook, Taco-tastic: Over 60 Recipes to Make Taco Tuesdays Last All Week Long, is included in the ticket price.

For ages 18 & up. 21 or older? You'll enjoy a Mcehelada or a glass of wine that has been perfectly paired with your meal.

ABOUT VICTORIA ELIZONDO

Victoria Elizondo is chef-owner of Houston's Cochinita & co. where she insists that fresh and preferably local ingredients are key to her vibrant and flavorful Mexican food. Her restaurant in the Greater East End was named one of the top 25 Best Restaurants in 2022 by the Houston Chronicle and in 2023, the Chef was nominated for the prestigious James Beard Emerging Chef Award.

When she was 12, Elizondo left her native Nuevo Leon, south of the Texas Mexican border, with her mother to move to the United States, where she became a DACA recipient. Following in her mother’s footsteps, she got her first job at 16 as a restaurant hostess, but decided early on that her interests were in the back of the house. After culinary school, she worked at top Houston restaurants including State of Grace, Pax Americana, and Xochi but in 2016, she decided to pursue her passion for regional Mexican food. She started her own business venture, Cochinita & co., as a food-truck which became a pop-up and catering business, and is now a beloved restaurant that is receiving high honors and has amassed a devoted following.
