If you don't know much about Bordeaux - or, worse, think that big names and big $$ is what it's all about - join us for a pair of deliciously illuminating explorations of the kind of Bordeaux we love most (Left Bank session coming Oct. 10!). Meaning wines full of flavor, history and a distinct sense of place that deliver plenty of delight, but do it without shouting or banging you over the head with overwhelming intensity. And bring you plenty of joy now and later (if you like to wait) at bargain prices to boot.

Our first class focuses on the history of Bordeaux and wines of the "Right Bank" - the east side of the Gironde River where estates are smaller and the historical focus on Merlot-based wines for the French domestic and northern European markets. You'll explore the charming value whites of Entre deux Mers and reds from high-prestige Saint Emilion and Pomerol and "satellite" villages just down the hills. And you'll delight in hearing how Bordeaux became "Bordeaux" and how traditional family farmers and innovative newcomers are escaping the hype and creating wines of high quality and honest character that also happen to sell for nicely honest prices.

The class covers seven wines and takes place on Thursday, September 26 at 7pm in our downstairs classroom.
