Born and raised in Penang, Malaysia, chef Kyo Pang’s passion comes from her experiences as a child of restaurateurs of Baba Nyonya descent—a rich culinary and coffee tradition blending Chinese and Malaysian cooking. After moving to New York, Pang opened Kopitiam (meaning “coffee shop” in Hokkien) in 2015 to wide acclaim. Named a 2018 New York Times critic’s pick, Pete Wells called the casual eatery “almost unfailingly terrific,” and in 2019 Bon Appétit named Kopitiam one of the top 10 new restaurants in the United States. All-day Malaysian breakfast classics like French Toast with Milo chocolate malt powder and condensed milk have kept diners fed and happy for almost a decade.
Join Chef Pang, a two-time James Beard Award semifinalist and a 2018 Eater Chef of the Year, as she brings her comforting yet complex breakfast feast inspired by mornings in Penang.
