Our stand-alone programs can also act as useful stepping stones to continuing your educational journey with WSG’s Italian Wine Scholar™ (IWS) or Vinitaly International Academy (VIA) certification study program, the gold standards in Italian wine courses.

This course explores the most-planted grape variety in Italy: Sangiovese. It outlines the grape's history, its characteristics, and synonyms, clones and biotypes. It also discusses the conditions under which it's successfully grown.

Each module is divided into 4 units all including diagrams, definitions and references to aid learning.

Knowledge checks

Throughout this course, you will encounter short questions to test your knowledge of the content. These are not for marks. Instead they are opportunities to apply your learning in a safe space.

A final quiz

At the end of the course, you will need to complete a 15-question quiz and achieve 80% in order to pass the course and receive certification. You will be given 3 attempts to pass this quiz and each attempt is limited to 15 minutes.

Certificate of completion

After passing the final quiz you will receive a digital certificate from the Native Grapes Italian Wine Academy. This and other courses will help prepare you for further studies with WSG’s Italian Wine Scholar™ (IWS) or Vinitaly International Academy (VIA) certification study program.
